Alex Morgan set up a great opportunity for Megan Rapinoe to finish, and the veteran stepped up with yet, another fantastic set piece against France on Friday. Megan Rapinoe continues to step up big for the USWNT, leading the team to victory, once again, 2-0.
Rapinoe is helping carry momentum further and further for team USA into the World Cup. USA is banking on their set pieces, as they nearly had a second goal just off deflections, they are keeping the attack aggressive early in the second half.
France started to find themselves with more and more opportunities, but USA capitalized on theirs, for Rapinoe found her second goal of the game with a beautiful play by Tobin Heath.
France didn’t give up; the French kept pressing forward, and found some space in the midfield, spreading the ball out wide to the wing for potential set pieces. France was finally rewarded with a superb corner kick and finish from Wendie Renard (81′).
The US, however, kept their composure with about 10 minutes left of play. The USWNT did not put their foot off the gas pedal, and continued to be aggressive.
Heath was able to find the back of the net late in the game, only to be waived off by a questionable offside call. The Americans kept fighting though, and were able to hold on to possession, and ended the game on France’s part of the pitch – standing tall as winners.
The US Women’s National Team pulled off an incredible feat to not only defeat a talented team like France, but on their own pitch hosting the World Cup.
Can Rapinoe and team USA keep up the momentum vs. England on Tuesday?
