Amidst all the NBA Free Agency drama, Westbrook is going to remain in a Thunder jersey after all. Oklahoma City’s superstar point guard Russell Westbrook has agreed to a three-year, max contract extension worth over $85M, league sources told The Vertical.
Looks like the Thunder will be able to hold onto at least one of their superstars, for this should be enough incentive to keep him in OKC.
Thunder Nation started to doubt whether they might lose another superstar after Kevin Durant’s shocking departure to Golden State, so they decided the only thing left to do was to aggressively pursue the last face of their franchise. The team first made their first tribute to Westbrook by trading Dion Waiters to the Miami Heat, helping clear more cap space.
Russell Westbrook is already 4th all-time in points for the Thunder (12,598), according to basketball-reference.com. He is only two spots behind Kevin Durant, and that is quickly going to change.
OKC’s Front Office has rewarded Westbrook his loyalty to the franchise with a new max contract with negotiations, but the question will now be if they can offer him some valuable NBA Free Agents coming forward.

Aspiring sports journalist, it began with my studies in Broadcast Journalism at CSUN. LA Native, now 26 years old. I'm absolutely crazy about sports, and would say it is definitely my passion. I played soccer all my life, and football at Hart High. I hope one day to continue my football dreams as a professional kicker, either CFL, Arena Football, and maybe one day the NFL.
